Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area in collaboration with the Charity Organization For The Welfare of The Aged People (COWAP) on Thursday September 20, 2018 hosted the yearly Elderly Walk For Life And Fitness Exercise for the aged from 60 years and above in Lagos Island, Lagos.
The Council’s Executive Chairman, Comrade Kamal Salau-Bashua who spoke through the Hon. Supervisor for Youth and Sports, Ogbeni Funsho Opaleye revealed that his administration will continue to support and sponsor such programmes that adds value to the health conditions of his people.
He said, “certain ailments that are synonymous with old age like hypertension, rheumatism, fatigue and so on can easily be prevented or managed through regular exercise and this is the reason we are happy to be part of this noble idea”.
Founder of COWAP who is also the initiator of the Walk, Mr. Olushola Esan was full of gratitude for the Local Council for being a partner and sponsor of an elderly programmme that was designed “to keep the aged fit in order to stay healthy”.
The Walk which took off from the UBA Garden, Marina and ended at the Freedom Park, Broad Street, Lagos Island was graced by the former under 21 National Chief Coach, Mr. Tunde Disu (OFR), representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, Nigerian Red Cross, Lagos Island East LCDA’s Community Development Associations and health personnels from the Department of Primary Healthcare.
